March is Women’s History Month, and California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA is co-hosting a special screening of Everyone Asked About You. The film—winner of the Grand Prize for Best Feature at the Golden State Film Festival—delves into the harsh realities faced by young women and child actors in Hollywood.

"This film is a powerful and timely look at exploitation in the entertainment industry," said Fiona Ma, CPA. "As someone who has spent my career advocating for survivors of abuse, fighting human trafficking, and breaking cycles of domestic violence, I’m proud to support this project and its message. It’s time to shine a light on these issues and push for meaningful change."

A Film That’s Sparking National Conversation

Written, directed, and co-starring John Lacy, Everyone

Asked About You tells the gripping story of Simone

(Rachel Bailit), a former child star struggling to maintain her

career while navigating the pressures of fame, personal

identity, and toxic industry power dynamics.

"This film examines two of the uglier sides of

Hollywood—the mistreatment of child actors and the sexual

objectification of women," said Lacy. "Rachel Bailit delivers

a tour-de-force performance, and we’re thrilled to bring this

independent film to audiences in San Francisco."

The film had its U.S. premiere at the Golden State Film Festival in Hollywood on February 16, 2025, playing to a sold-out theater before taking home the festival’s Grand Prize for Best Feature on February 21.

A Rising Star’s Contribution to the Film

San Francisco-based composer Joshua Tin—winner

of the Youth Achievement Award at The South East

Asian Film Festival—created the film’s original score. At

just 17 years old, Tin has already achieved international

recognition, and his music brings emotional depth to the

film’s ending.

"We struck artistic gold with Joshua Tin," said Lacy. "His

maturity and understanding of how to enhance the

emotional arc of this film has been nothing short of

extraordinary."

About the Film

Fueled by a steady barrage of real-life stories exposing the dark side of Hollywood, Everyone Asked About You is a thought-provoking exploration of the price of fame. The film’s non-linear storytelling takes audiences inside the life of Simone, a former child star, as she faces soul-compromising decisions to stay relevant in an industry that preys on the vulnerable
