Sacramento, CA – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California today announced the 700,000-member union’s endorsement of former legislator and Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma for State Treasurer.

“California’s Treasurer is in a pivotal position to protect and advance our state’s values through the power of California’s purse, and SEIU members have selected Fiona Ma for this important role,” said Yvonne Walker, President of SEIU Local 1000. “Fiona Ma’s deep experience in budget and finance, on top of her crucial leadership in protecting Californians’ health and advancing access to care, make her SEIU California’s choice in 2018.”

“Through our process of hearing from the candidates and having our questions answered, I learned what an important role California's Treasurer has in issues that affect our families - from housing to healthcare to a secure retirement,” said Gwyn Harshaw, SEIU Local 521 President and Retired Member from Fresno Unified School District. “I’m proud to support Fiona Ma and to work hard through November 2018 to see her elected to this important post.”
