Sacramento, CA – Today State Board of Equalization Chair Fiona Ma announced her team in her 2018 campaign for California State Treasurer.

Lisa Gasperoni’s LG Campaigns will serve as general consultant and lead strategist. With more than 25 years’ experience, Gasperoni has been involved with more than 200 campaigns —ranging from US Congress to State Senate, Assembly, Mayoral, Supervisorial and City Council as well as local and statewide ballot measures and independent expenditure campaigns.
SCN Strategies, founded by Ace Smith, Sean Clegg and Dan Newman, will oversee media and creative. SCN has directed award-winning media campaigns for California’s top elected officials, including Senator Kamala Harris, Governor Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, among many others.
BB&G Consulting’s Rhianon See-Barnato will oversee fundraising strategy. BB&G is California’s most successful fundraising firm for statewide campaigns, tallying nine winning races in the last decade alone, most recently Kamala Harris' successful 2016 Senate campaign. Other members of the fundraising team will include Amy Salomone (Bay Area), Julie Sandino (Sacramento) and Christina Kegeyan (Southern California).
Kathy Bowler will direct political strategy and coalition building. Bowler’s long track record in California races is highlighted by stints as Executive Director of the California Democratic Party and California State Director for Al Gore for President.
About Fiona Ma
Fiona Ma is a Certified Public Tax Accountant and currently serves on the California State Board of Equalization. Ma was elected to the State Board of Equalization in 2014, and represents 9.5 million constituents. As one of the two Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) to ever have served on the Board, Ma understands the challenges that businesses and taxpayers face today. She has worked tirelessly to uphold the highest level of integrity in government and fought to increase accessibility, accountability, and transparency over the Board and the taxpayer money it oversees.
Prior to serving on the State Board of Equalization, Ma served as a California State Assemblywoman where she was the first Asian American woman to serve as Speaker pro Tempore. In the Assembly, Ma authored groundbreaking legislation to ban toxic chemicals in baby products and worked on legislation to protect victims of domestic violence, defend consumers, help California’s working families pay their bills, prevent the spread of Hepatitis B, increase access to quality healthcare, and provide equal rights for all Californians.
Ma previously served one term as a San Francisco Supervisor where she authored the landmark Local Business Enterprise ordinance on behalf of women and minority business owners and passed legislation to stop human trafficking.
Ma received her B.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology (NY), her M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University (SF), and an MBA from Pepperdine University. She has been licensed in California as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 1992. She is married to Jason Hodge, a full-time firefighter and an Oxnard Harbor Commissioner.
