Fiona Ma returned to Union Tower in National City after attending the project’s 2024 groundbreaking — this time as families began moving into their new homes.
Developed by Wakeland Housing and owned by the San Diego Building Trades Family Housing Corporation, Union Tower provides 93 affordable homes, including permanent supportive housing for veterans who have experienced homelessness.
As State Treasurer, Fiona chairs committees that awarded more than $3.5 million in annual federal tax credits and issued tax-exempt bonds that helped make the all-electric development possible. Nearly 2,000 applications for the homes underscored the scale of California’s housing need.
