The momentum is undeniable. California Democrats are rallying behind Fiona Ma with overwhelming grassroots support. She leads in the polls, holds the strongest financial edge, and is earning powerful new endorsements from labor and civil rights organizations.
Convention
The results are in: State Treasurer Fiona Ma received more votes than her two major opponents COMBINED in the final tally of delegate endorsement votes at the California Democratic Convention. Ma received 1,263 votes. (Compare this to the Governor’s race, where the top vote getter received 571 votes).
This impressive showing against two strong, well-fi nanced opponents squarely reinforces Fiona Ma as the leader in the race and the overwhelming choice of the California Democratic Party’s leaders across 58 counties.
New Endorsements
On the eve of the convention, Fiona Ma received the sole endorsement of Equality California, the state’s largest LGBTQ+ organization, as well as the sole endorsement of the California Professional Firefi ghters. Ma also snared the backing of California YIMBY. Add these new endorsements to the 40+ labor groups supporting her, and Ma has the lion’s share of major endorsements in the race.
Polling
Polling by Tulchin Research released last week shows Fiona Ma with a commanding lead among all Democrats. Ma has nearly four times the support than her nearest rival. When Republicans are added to the poll, Ma is the only Democratic candidate in the race registering double digits statewide. She leads among all ethnic groups and other demographic candidates, and in every region of the state. Polls distributed by her rivals also acknowledge that Ma has more support than any other candidate.
Campaign Funds
Fiona Ma also has a significant advantage in fundraising. She is the undisputed leader in both resources raised and cash on hand. With nearly $5 million COH, Ma is millions ahead of Josh Friday ($1.97 million) and Michael Tubbs ($744K) in the latest campaign reports filed with the California Secretary of State.
All signs point in one direction: State Treasurer Fiona Ma is the clear frontrunner and heading into the final stretch in a commanding position for Lieutenant Governor in June and November.
