CalMatters included Fiona Ma’s victory in its statewide election roundup following the November 3 general election, reporting that the Associated Press called the Lieutenant Governor’s race for Ma on election night.
The independent California newsroom’s report, written by Jocelyn Wiener, reviewed contests for major statewide offices and explained the role of the Lieutenant Governor in California government. It reported the AP call for Ma as early results established her lead over Republican Gloria Romero.
Ma’s next role will include seats on governing boards for the state’s public higher education systems, along with other constitutional and commission responsibilities. Her campaign emphasized using those opportunities to address educational affordability, workforce pathways, and California’s economic future.
Vote counting continues across the state, and the final election totals remain subject to certification.
