The Sacramento Bee reported that the Associated Press projected Fiona Ma would become California’s next Lieutenant Governor, defeating Republican Gloria Romero in the November 3 general election.
The Bee’s report by Lia Russell, published as election returns came in, highlighted Ma’s work as a Certified Public Accountant and California State Treasurer, along with earlier service in the State Assembly and on the State Board of Equalization.
The newspaper also described the Lieutenant Governor’s responsibilities, including participation on the governing boards of the University of California, California State University, and California Community Colleges, as well as the State Lands Commission.
Ma’s election follows a statewide campaign focused on listening to Californians and addressing challenges including affordability, housing, higher education, and job opportunities. The race has been called by the AP, although official canvassing and certification continue.
