In every election, endorsements matter. But some endorsements carry special significance because of the trust they have earned within the communities they serve.
That is why we are honored that the South Bay Black Journal has chosen Fiona Ma as its first-ever political endorsement.
After what the publication described as “careful deliberation and hours of research and sourcing,” the South Bay Black Journal announced its endorsement of Fiona Ma for Lieutenant Governor of California. The editorial noted that while the publication has remained independent and avoided making political endorsements since its founding, it felt compelled to support a candidate who has demonstrated a lifetime of public service and a proven ability to deliver results for Californians.
The endorsement recognizes Fiona’s unmatched experience in public office, spanning more than three decades of service to California. As State Treasurer, she manages one of the largest public finance operations in the nation, overseeing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and helping finance schools, housing, infrastructure, hospitals, and economic development projects throughout the state. The publication highlighted her record as a problem-solving public servant who has consistently built coalitions and worked to improve government for the people it serves.
The South Bay Black Journal also emphasized a quality that many voters have come to appreciate about Fiona: authenticity.
In its editorial, the publication described Fiona as someone who genuinely cares about the people she serves and who remains focused on finding solutions and improving opportunities for communities across California. It praised her commitment to listening, learning, and ensuring that underserved communities have a voice in state government.
This endorsement adds to the growing coalition supporting Fiona’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor. Her campaign has earned support from labor leaders, local elected officials, community advocates, public safety professionals, housing leaders, and organizations representing millions of Californians.
As Californians prepare to make an important decision about the future leadership of our state, endorsements like this underscore a simple reality: experience matters.
The Lieutenant Governor must be ready to lead, ready to govern, and ready to step in when California needs experienced leadership. Fiona Ma has spent her career delivering results, managing complex challenges, and fighting for communities across every region of the state.
We are grateful for the confidence placed in Fiona by the South Bay Black Journal and its readers, and we look forward to continuing to earn the trust of voters across California.
